What in the hell are they doing over there anyway??? Does anyone have any idea? So ambiguous. I think we’re seeing a war prosecuted by committee. This should be terrible.

No one is in charge it seems. I understand what Obama is trying to do. It’s similar to how he handled the healthcare debate. He looked at history and decided the reason Clinton’s reform didn’t pass was because people associated him (or ratherher) with it. Likewise, we doesn’t want America associated with another war in a Muslim country. It makes perfect political sense. But strategically, I think we’re going to see a demonstration of a text-book fluster-fuck.

I was surprised and pleased that the UN at least voted to take military action. But after I thought about it, I was still pleased, but less surprised. I think the free world knows that America is broke, already fighting two wars, and has a pansy President. This means they can’t just argue against everything, knowing that in the end the US will take care of business – do all the hard stuff while the European leaders focus on politicking.

But the problem is, Europe can’t do anything, not even all together. They’ve been so reliant on the US military they can barely put on a fireworks display two days in a row. Right now the US is doing 99% of the heavy lifting in Libya – no one else can take that over.

Add to that the apparent fact that these rebels aren’t worth shit on the battle field… I mean, three weeks ago when they were rolling up the country, and the Libyan military was defecting out the front and back door, a long weekend of carrier-based strategic bombing would have no doubt maintained the rebels momentum and scared the loyalty out of any Gadhafi friends. We’d probably be talking about elections right now…

But what happened instead – Gadhafi stopped the rebel’s momentum, and pushed back - hard, recapturing stuff, and now has his tanks parked in urban areas, all the while the UN bickered and the White House stayed silent, not even supporting a no-fly-zone. Now, as long as Gadhafi has cash for mercenaries and loyalists, he can stay dug in for quite some time, all the while the country as a whole suffers like hell, remembering the kinder days under Papa Gadhafi.

At least the Arab World won’t see this as yet another American military action in a Muslim country – will they????

Happy birthday everyone! YouTube is catching up with hookers and interns in number of public figures ruined. I was shocked when I heard it this morning, Helen Thomas’ resigning/retiring. Last night I was thinking about it and I figured she’d just be protected – as usual – by all the new powerful fancy leftists, and the old-person factor. But Gibbs even called her words offensive. At least it is still offensive for Americans to publicly support the destruction of Israel.

This reminds me of a skit by that Canadian comedy group – The Kids in the Hall:

Nothing about passing a bill that forces companies to provide health insurance if they have more than 50 employees will stimulate entrepreneurship.

It’s just ridiculous. This is something around a 10% increase (probably more) in employee costs. That might not seem like much to a foolish congresswoman who’s never had to earn a living, but when you realize that a successful business is usually functioning on a profit margin of single percentage points, and that most entrepreneurial ventures fail, and that the ones that do succeed do so only after several years of losing money – you’ll understand how difficult these fancy new taxes will make it to do the things our economy needs us to do: innovate, risk, and invest.

The only entrepreneurial powers this will unleash are new solutions to keep your staff under 50 members.

People tried using this one to argue against the patriot act. Franklin’s actual use of the phrase was in motivating the pussy-ass too-rich-and-comfortable community leaders to make war with the English Empire.

Healthcare reform bill stalled

Ok guys, I get it. You got caught up in all the inaugural excitement. We elected Obama assuming “change” meant a thoughtful approach, but you thought we gave you a mandate to turn the country on its keel. So you went after you’re dreams: single payer, sky-rocketing business costs, and reduced carbon output. I can’t blame anyone for going after their dreams. And hey, at least you go that juicy stimulus!

But those darn Democrats, they got in your way. Single payer was compromised into single payer under a different name – then into a public option. Then even that was compromised – first into some fancy long winded name coined by Pelosi that essentially meant public option, and finally, a year later, into nothing more than a list new regulations – more similar to the Republican alternative to Hillary Care than the brilliant progressive stride we were all assuming would slide through. (Eh, regardless of the naïve math and unfunded state Medicaid mandates) And to add insult to injury, you have to buy some of those Dem votes too.

And darn-it – you could have passed it. Hell, you could have passed a bill covering sea lions FFS. I know you’d like to blame the Republicans, but shit man – you knew you had all the power and that’s how you wrote the bill. No Republican could have voted for that thing any more than you guys could all climb on board with invading Iraq! Or – wait. You got tricked on that one – hu? Well, you know what I mean. You can’t blame the dog you’re walking when you walk into a pole – even if he was enthusiastic about it.

So the question is: What now. Indeed, this bill is shot to shit. Stack that monstrosity on the back of the toilet in the staff bathroom. But what now? Should you pole-vault over the wall with Pelosi? Should you try to come to some reasonable consensus with a few reasonable Republicans? Should you keep this unorganized circus with your ring leader off in his own ring singing his poems?

I’m not sure what you should do. I’d like to see some actual reform though.

Congress to cut funding for KSM trial in NY

Every time anyone asks Obama or anyone in his admin a question about trying KSM in civilian court, they duck the question and assure us he’ll be convicted and executed. So if this is just going to be a $1 billion show trial – why not just “have the trial” (wink-wink)? You know – take a few days off, “have the trial,” print up some transcripts and stuff, execute the bastard, and use the $1 billion on some new Predator drones or something.

Don’t ask don’t tell – once again up for debate

What part of “don’t ask don’t tell” is so hard to understand?

It’s fine for passive citizens whose allegiance is more or less irrelevant. If you were a functioning part of the framework –allegiance would be different. A soldier, for example, can’t question his orders. He must obey them, unless of course they are illegal. Our current climate nearly has solders requiring basic training in military law – with all the appeasement we’ve been attempting in Iraq when civilians get killed.

Sometimes bad things have to happen to protect good things, and we need people willing to do the bad things. Those are patriots. Those are men like Oliver North who stand up and take blame honorably. Those men are like the SEAL team that shot those poor confused pirates in the head.

Sacrifice. Your people before yourself. Patriotism.

I wouldn’t call the US a big company. Yeah, the government is, but the United States of America and the Constitution are much more than that. They are an idea. That is what America is – it’s not just this jackass government. I don’t understand how one can be a patriot “for now” unless they plan to change some core beliefs – like becoming a socialist.

If Denmark (referenced from previous post) or any country wants to impose their government on my people – I’ll fight them for no other reason than the fact that a foreign – unelected – group is compelling something on my people. This is a primal patriotic response. The Taliban and Al Qaeda use it to convince people who don’t know any better to fight the Iraqi and Afghan governments.

Also – if our government became unjust or oppressive – like Iraq and Afghanistan WERE – that would be a different story. I would then fight the government as a patriot to the United States of America. Of course, some of the people I would be fighting would also be patriots. It’s a matter of politics at such a points.

Regardless, politics doesn’t dilute the meaning of patriotism. Patriots put their society before themselves. And despite the trends in word use, patriotism is just as important during times of peace. Patriots support and protect their society in millions of ways besides killing rivals and aggressors – like trimming tree branches away from stop signs and clearing snow away from fire hydrants.

Indeed, I love the idea of a capital gains tax cut on small business investment. But I’ll swear this right now – and let it be heard: If Obama and his Democrats pass such a tax cut, and actual cut and not in name only, the following Saturday, at the first strike of noon, I will cross my front street and take a shit in my mail box.

This address has amazed me. I wasn’t expecting Obama to be so brazenly and blatantly contradictory and – well – disingenuous. This address was one contradiction after another – and one skewed view of reality after another.

Seriously – he thinks there’s no support for this asinine health reform bill because he didn’t explain it well enough? Does he really think we’re that stupid??? Who the hell knows what is in that bill? The week before last his camp had locked themselves in a room, made dirty secret deals in order to grab votes for a secret bill. All the while Obama is constantly – on every channel every week – spouted poetry about vague ideas of health reform. Didn’t explain it well enough… Oh yeah – if only the American people understood the bill they’d all be on board. YOU KNOW DAMN WELL YOU KEPT IT A F****G SECRET BECAUSE YOU KNEW DAMN WELL IF AMERICA DID KNOW WHAT WAS IN IT THEY’D SHIT THEMSELVES OVER IT!!!!

Seriously? HE – Obama – was calling for an end to the perpetual campaign???  Come on – we aren’t all stupid. Obama himself IS that dirty style of politics – where you do [this] but talk [that]. That’s what this address IS!!!. He’s talking [$that] while doing [$this].

I noticed something interesting. He claimed with regard to healthcare reform that he didn’t take it on to take a political victory. As he said it though, watch his body language. He didn’t believe what he was saying, or at least he wasn’t comfortable or confident saying it.

But the most honest thing he said was that he’d focus on job creation in 2010. No – I don’t believe he will focus on job creation in 2010. It’s just honest that he basically admitted that he sure as shit wasn’t focusing on jobs creation in 2009 – unless you count government jobs.

I’d get more detailed, but I’m just exhausted. Obama’s idea of sharing a cake is to take the whole damn thing up to his room. Of course his brother will disagree with that policy. So Obama will accuse his brother of “not sharing” by blocking his policy of sharing the cake.

I can’t believe a single thing Obama says anymore. I just can’t. It’s not partisanship either, or any of that blind religious belief in conservativism some would like to accuse me of, or racism, or prejudice against left handed people. It’s a simple fact I learned long ago: Some people lie.

Also, does anyone else find his narcissism a little off-putting? Shit, this whole speech was focused on Obama. I-I-I-I-I-I-I…

It is funny that every Democrat commenting on the speech has had something derogatory to say about Republicans holding up legislation. Those poor Dems… If they ever took a group trip to Baskin Robins we’d never see them again.
