Reconciliation

reconciliation actHere’s the Wikipedia article on Reconciliation: Wikipedia Reconciliation Act

Basically the original intent was to pass unsavory changes to keep a reasonable budget. But since it passed in 1974, the two parties have taken turns in the majority and each time raised the precedent for abuse of Reconciliation.

It’s somewhat mind-boggling that the Dems would actually try this with such a huge piece of legislation. I mean, has there ever been a bigger one, besides Social Security?

In reality, without the benefit of delusion, it’s hard to think of something the Dems could do that would be more beneficial to the variety of antagonists to their agenda.

And that’s my only determination: The guys leading this hair-brained assault are those hard Left believers America unwittingly placed into the highest offices – Pelosi, Obama, and so on. They must have mulled this over, using their interesting set of premises, and determined that some of them are safe no matter what (*cough* Massachusetts), some will be in trouble if they don’t pass a hardy Liberal bill, and most have already suffered their major damage already – so lets suffer the last few blows and make the goal even if it kills us or we have to cheat.

This whole exercise is one of utter stupidity. This is the kind of thing that makes me hate people. I hear tidy Liberals factually explaining that: It’s just an up-or-down vote. It’s simply majority rules.

reconciliationReally? Really! So when Sarah Palin is president and Glenn Beck is using his chalk board to send hard Conservatives and Libertarians to the Senate and House, and they start passing legislation hand over fist that cuts off all those siphons feeding the places that employ all the Liberals, and making it a Federal crime to kill a fetus or pass State gay marriage laws, and letting the rich off your collectivist hook with the Fair Tax – will you still feel the new 51 votes in the Senate precedent is just a simple, comfortable, and gentle reality sivilized democracy – something we need to get anything done?

No – you’ll be flipping out, kicking and screaming and vilifying, just like you were between 2002 and 2004 when it was the Republican’s turn at the majority. “Hypocrite” isn’t a strong enough word.

So go ahead, up the anti. Let’s pass out the machineguns. But just remember, the Republicans have this strange ability to make a reasonable goal and then all walk there in lock-step – over hill and over dale, crushing under foot hemp necklaces and professionally printed protest signs all the way.

Hey, I’m fairly Conservative. But even I don’t want to see those guys spraying metaphoric legislative lead. They’re deadly. They’ll be pissing on barrels, shouting oaths, and giving profanity laden compliments to who ever is having a turn at the trigger.

reconciliationI’m not so worried about Liberals. They’ll approach machinegun operation with the lofty idea that since they have 5000 rounds they’ll be able to stop 5000 soldiers, and decide before anything that they only want the bullets to go in a certain area of the body and to avoid minorities. Then they’ll argue about how to load it, finally compromising on a method. It won’t matter though because part of that compromise will include trading almost all the ammo for a variety of pet-projects, of course without affecting the official solder stop numbers because they’re only facing 9 troops. And then they’ll sit there like dumb-shits, clubbing each other with the gun, while the enemy squad – having surrounded the bunker – lobs about 19 grenades in.

In other words, before long Ann Marie will be saying: “They’re baaaaaaaaaack.”
