No Stephanopoulos, That’s Not What Obama Said

September 29, 2009 by Noisy Dove

As most of our loyal readers know, I have a number of issues with Obama. And, most of my posts here concerning his policies are negative – although fair. But I have to take his side on something that happened during his interview-athon last Sunday.

It was an interview by George Stephanopoulos from abc. For the most part the interview wasn’t bad. But – out of no where George suddenly challenged the president on whether or not he was breaking his promise to not raise taxes on the bottom 95% of American wage earners. Now that’s just dirty pool. First – Obama didn’t sign up for all these interviews to be challenged with difficult or critical questions – he’s trying to sell the health care bill not discus it. If he was interested in that, he would have asked Fox News for an interview and not just all the other cable news outlets.

healthcare penaltySecond, George was grasping for straws in how he had to twist language to make up a difficult question. He pointed at Obama’s plan to mandate coverage and have a penalty charged to those who fail to get coverage, calling that a tax – hu. The fact is, Obama promised not to raise taxes on the lower 95% – TAXES! The government charging people a penalty is no more a tax than a surcharge, a fee, or a garnishment. So stop your language tricks George. How do you think Obama is going to pay for all this unprecedented spending, the trillions upon trillions he’s saddling us with, and all these new programs and bureaucracies? He couldn’t even come close if he took ALL the top 5% wage earner’s money.

Obama didn’t promise that he wouldn’t pass legislation that would force us to pay more money to the government. He just promised that he wouldn’t call those payments taxes. So no more of your sly games George! Step back in line and help Obama lead the charge into the Great Transition.
